Excelcare at Newark

The Physical Therapy department is excellent and very professional. My father in law was at Excelcare for 5 weeks and PT Director Radhika and her staff were very professional and provided best services for rehab. The Physical and Occupational therapy staff went above and beyond to make sure the patients are comfortable doing daily routine. The nursing staff and aids were also provided services.

My mom was sent there to recover from a major foot surgery because she wasn’t allowed to bare any weight and she is 76 and her other leg is weak. My biggest complaint was the staff we encountered. We got there in the evening so I know we had the later shift staff but the orderly that came into her room to help her was visibly rude, impatient, and offered no assistance to help with the few tasks my mom was there for. She stayed one night and had the same experience over night and we took her home the next day. She was safer at our house. The place is clean and maybe long term care is adequate but do not send a loved one there for short term care

I like the staff because they are kind and considerate. My roommate is a gem and we get along really well. There is room for improvement in the kitchen, but I really like the spaghetti and macaroni and cheese

I have had a positive experience with Excelcare at Newark, where my 83 year-old cousin currently resides. She originally started out in the Atrium for independent living but has temporarily moved to the skilled nursing side of the facility for post-op rehabilitation. I appreciate how the two sides are connected but at the same time are separated, which helps maintain a sense of community; some of her friends from the Atrium even come to visit! Chandler, the executive director, of the Atrium has been amazing. She’s very hands-on and genuinely cares about the residents. She worked hard to ensure my cousin’s transition went smooth without feeling uprooted, which I truly appreciate. This building is extremely old and dirty call REHABILITATION??!! All over urine smell and BM smell when you go there in the afternoon. The trash in the room full of dirty adult diapers,briefs...under the sink smell is just crucial!! Only one bathroom for two rooms.. Wheelchair doesn't fits in the bathroom so every resident sitting on the potty with open door.. Stinks is crucial...I tried to open up the window it's very hard but I just did finally... afterwards can't closed since the window opener won't working at all!! NO SHOWER IN THE ROOM ALSO.. I have to get a spoon to pull back that windows... Plus listen this I visited my friend her diaper it's always wet. Next to her the other lady said has to use the bathroom so I ring a bell ,call for nurse no one came next 30 MINUTES...FRIDAY AFTE
