Ellis Hospital

Went Thursday February 26th for a partial nephrectomy. I have to say from the time I got there to the time I left I was really taken very well care of. My nurse in the room while I was waiting was fantastic. The nurse when I woke up in recovery was also tremendous. Even while I was waiting to be discharged, my heart rate was a little higher than they wanted and they never rushed to have me leave. They kept coming and making sure I was okay. I know nobody likes to stay in the hospital and mine was outpatient surgery. But I don't think I was ready to go home and deal with things myself. Even with my wife's help, we really didn't know what to expect and it seemed like I needed more. IV. I ended up bagging the emergency room Saturday with severe stomach pains, ended up being more constipation

This is the slowest hospital in the entire capital district. I'm currently awaiting INPATIENT SURGERY, and they have not told me a time I will be seen. They have me in what they call add-on status, which is basically a status where they just put you in wherever they can find a slot. The problem with this is, I am made to go without eating or drinking fluids indefinitely. So I haven't eaten or drank anything since midnight last night, and have no idea when I will be able to eat or drink again. That is torturous because eating is essential to gut and immune health. They are running IV fluids into my body, but at a very very slow rate, so I feel completely dehydrated and famished.

I am doing a follow up review. I had the chance to come and visit the hospital in real life. They were very kind and helpful and thoughtful. I felt under the weather but they took care of me very well ❤️‍🩹. Thank you!

The care is good in my experience; everyone gets their own room to my experience, I have never seen anyone stuck in a hallway unlike albany med. However, the billing is a nightmare. They will not talk with you for months at a time and then send you four or five bills simultaneously, and then text, mail, and call you multiple times a week if you don't pay all of the bills immediately and in full. Even when they waited months, in some cases, to send those bills to you. It's a textbook example of why reform and transparency in hospital billing should be a priority for everyone.

Despite the hospital’s low ratings, my experience was generally positive. There was a wait, which is expected, especially when many patients need attention. However, once I was seen, the staff was attentive. They listened to my symptoms, ordered the necessary exams, and were able to identify the issue. Overall, the care I received was thorough and appreciated.
