El Paso Rheumatology

My mother has been seeing Dr. Gutarra since June 2025, and our experience has been very disappointing. In our opinion, his approach feels profit-driven and lacking compassion. He frequently orders extensive imaging and prescribes medications without clear explanations, which left us feeling dismissed rather than cared for. The office organization is also very poor—calls take a long time to be returned, and communication from the front desk and staff is inconsistent. Based on our experience, I would not recommend seeing this doctor.

I have been trying to get answers for my autoimmune issues for years. My primary care doctor found my spleen was enlarged and I have kidney issues. I have already been diagnosed with graves disease and rheumatoid arthritis. I was sent here because my old rheumatologist retired. I met this Dr and was told all my past diagnosis were probably wrong, I was told that my thyroid and spleen basically have nothing to do with my autoimmune issues and he doesn't think I have arthritis at all even though he barely looked at my hands, feet or anything else. He was kind of rude but I don't think he realizes he is. Midway through the appointment I stopped and told him it wasnt going to work out. I dont know how this man has been given the opportunity to practice for so long if im being honest. I have n

Dr. Gutarra is incredibly knowledgeable, attentive, and professional! He pays attention to my needs and symptoms and provides accurate assessments and treatment plans for my rheumatoid arthritis. I can always rely on Dr. Gutarra to listen and be thorough during my exams! I’m grateful for his compassion and attention to my health!!!

Very professional practice - grateful for the care I have received for past several months. Dr Gutarra is thorough and provides appropriate patient education. Wait times are reasonable. Fairly easy to get appointment or change appointment time, and very timely communication with nurse when phone messages left. Overall, communication with this office is excellent. This is in sharp contrast to my last Rheumatologist whose office did not answer several calls across multiple days, and did not respond to my text after their voicemail instructed patients to text them to get most timely response.

I endured unacceptable care from Dr. Gutarra for 10 years. I dreaded each appointment, forcing myself to attend just so I could receive medication refills. I left his practice a year ago after I reached my limit of dealing with his arrogance, rudeness, and lack of empathy. I left my last appointment in tears. I’m so glad I made the life changing decision to look for another Dr and I am now under the amazing care of Dr. Yvette Farran (UMC). She provided care in one appointment that I didn’t receive in the entire ten years with Gutarra. Do not settle for care with this Dr. There are options in El Paso and you deserve better.
