ECU Pediatric Cardiology

Drove two hours here for an appointment with my daughter for heart issue. appointment time was at 2:30 and was told to arrive at 2:10. We arrived at 2:12 went through the front and was escorted to the pediatric clinic, which is on the left-hand side of the entering the building. Checking in was fine and have no issues with checking in. The lady was kind and courteous took my insurance information and my drivers license and showed us the way to the bathroom. Went to go change my daughter, but unfortunately, they didn’t have a changing table in the bathroom so one of the CMAs gave us a room so I could cath and change my daughter. My daughter is thankfully doing well today, and her current outpatient pediatric cardiology care has been appropriate. However, my experience with fetal SVT management at ECU Greenville during pregnancy was deeply traumatic and resulted in lasting physical and psychological harm that needs to be acknowledged. I was admitted at 33+6 weeks for sustained fetal SVT and remained hospitalized for 12 days. Let me add, lied and said we could go home with management. Treatment relied heavily on administering digoxin to me in an attempt to lower my baby’s heart rate. My own heart was continuously monitored, and I repeatedly reported palpitations, visual disturbances, dizziness, and feeling unwell, which were documented but did not result in any meaningful change to the plan. Ridiculous!!!!!! My child has been a patient here for 8/9 years and we’ve never had issues with this place. All my child needed was a form stating she doesn’t need medication before getting a cleaning, you would think I’m asking them for something that they don’t typically do every day possibly. I faxed the form on October 14th 2023 (already called ahead of time to get the fax number so I know it was correct) and I called that Monday or Tuesday (whatever day it was it was during the weekday because I needed to make sure they even received it) I was told they need to send a message somewhere and someone would call me back. Very pleased with this office. Staff were friendly. They knew how to talk to my 5 year old daughter so that she wouldn't be so scared. They did a thorough evaluation and then the Doctor came in and took her time to explain everything to us and answered all of our questions. The wait time was not long. The entire appointment took an hour. That was including an echo and ekg. Will definately stick with this office.

Dr Steed and his office are easily offended when you are educated and advocate for your child. Reasons for switching my kid off a medication that works specifically for that problem to something different typically used for a different issue that she doesn’t have with greater side effects: “that’s what he prefers to use.” Embarrassing that his nurse even gave me that explanation. Do better! Stop having the do as I say because I’m the dr mentality. DO YOUR RESEARCH PARENTS!!!! IT IS OK TO QUESTION THE DR AND DISAGREE!!!!!! ADVOCATE FOR YOUR CHILD!!!!!!
