I initially gave a positive review on this dentist office but pulled it back after I ran into issues with their accounting practices as well as possible over-treatment tendencies. I visited them for an emergency root canal on Jan 2. I thought Dr. Rutley did a good job with the procedure and freeing of me the excruciating pain. They charged me in full for their services upfront as they didn't work with my dental insurance. It was all fine up until then. The office manager told me they submitted the invoice to my insurance and that I would receive a check directly from the insurance for any portion of the services covered for an out-of-network dentist. After waiting for about 5-6 weeks, I called my insurance company to find out that a check for $2K had actually gone to the dentist inst

Experienced a dental emergency - broken molar crow - and contacted Dr. Rutley's office late at night since he advertises as open 24-hours. I was looking for a good dentist since my previous one started over selling her services, and inconsistencies in billing!! I got through to a receptionist, who said the dentist would return my call. Within 15 minutes, Dr. Rutley answered my late evening phone call & we arranged to met early next morning, since I wasn't in pain. I visited Dr. Rutley & he restored the crown quickly and effectively. He seems to care about his patient's dental health, and suggested options on other teeth that need work. I feel he provided top notch dental services, and also has a relatively friendly staff. I think Dr. Rutley did a great job on my teeth, and ready scheduled

I had intense pain from an abscess and infected, dying nerves that had formed under an inlay in one of my molars. It was by far the worst pain I have ever experienced. I called my regular dentist, and despite it being a medical emergency and them having placed the inlay just a week prior, they said they wouldn’t be able to get me in for a few days. The advice nurse at Kaiser told me my symptoms were very serious and that I needed to be seen immediately. Unfortunately, it was a Saturday evening, and all the local dentists who claimed to be 'on call for emergencies' never even picked up the phone. I expanded my search and found Dentistry of Del Mar. They told me to come in right away, and they worked late into the evening taking care of me. They even put on a movie for me, which was a nice

I am so grateful to have found Dr Rutlley! I recently had a dental emergency (on a Friday night) and needed a root canal ASAP. I called his answering service at 2am Saturday and he called me back at 6AM giving me an appointment for 10 that day. He was able to give me my root canal and my weekend was saved! I’m beyond impressed that Dr. Rutley gives so much time to his patients, being available 24/7 to take care of emergencies. He is a gem in the dental community. Thank you to him and his wonderful staff. Side note: I have read some reviews on his gruff exterior and coming across as rude. To me this is a doctor who demands perfection and delivers. He does excellent work and if you are in a crisis with your tooth, do you want someone to hold your hand or someone to get the job done?

This place is amazing. After my crown fell out on my lunch break on a Saturday I was scrambling to call any office open in San Diego. I left a voicemail for Dr. Rutley’s office, & made an appt at a different office in north county in the meantime. While this Dr in north county was quoting me $5000 for a root canal & crown because my “bone was infected,” Dr. Rutley was calling me back numerous times to make sure I got the help I needed. I was uncomfortable with the quote I got so I called Dr. Rutley back & without question he told me to drive down to his office ASAP for an appt. Within the hour I was seen & Dr. Rutley confirmed the other Dr was scamming me as he found no infection on X-ray. Dr. Rutley is not out for your money, he really cares about your health & I felt like he had really t
