Del Mar M.E.D.

After waiting more than six months to be accepted as a new patient, I was disappointed by the experience on the day of my appointment. I was seated in the waiting room well past my scheduled time with no explanation or update. During this extended wait, another patient’s young child repeatedly sought my attention while their parent was distracted on their phone, which made the situation uncomfortable. The waiting room itself felt neglected, with dim lighting and visible cleanliness issues, including used tissues on the floor. Prior to the appointment, I was also asked to provide my insurance information for the third time, despite having already shared it by phone and uploaded it to the patient portal. I have been a patient of Dr. Borok for a few years now and I will say she is one of the most amazing doctors i've had in my life. I have struggled with numerous health conditions for several years now and while most doctors i've seen do the bare minimum Dr. Borok has gone above and beyond to make me feel cared for. Not only is she extremely knowledgable but she truly possess a trait that I feel most doctors lack, which is true care and empathy for her patients. I have always been easily able to reach her for any of my health needs and the office staff are not only efficient but kind and always respectful. I highly recommend Dr. Borok as a dermatologist.

Even though there are friendly staff and a great doctor, our overall first experience with Del Mar M.E.D. left a lot to be desired. We checked in and completed paperwork before our appointment time. Then, counting from when we were originally scheduled, we waited in the hallway (the waiting room was full) with an infant for 55 minutes before being taken to an exam room. In the exam room, we waited another 15 minutes before the doctor came in. The doctor was in the room for less than 10 minutes before an assistant came knocking to remind the doctor of the next patient. What’s perhaps most disappointing is that there’s no guarantee this won’t keep happening or that there’s anything that will be done to fix the issue.

I am writing this review not out of malice, but from a place of reflection and advocacy for others who may be experiencing unexplained skin conditions. During my visits to this dermatology office, I felt that my concerns were minimized and at times redirected in a way that suggested the issue might be psychological rather than physical. Despite persistent and painful symptoms that I knew were real and affecting my quality of life, I was advised to consider seeing a psychiatrist. I understand the importance of holistic care, including mental health support when appropriate. However, it is equally critical that patients especially women and people of color: feel heard, validated, and fully examined before assumptions are made. Dr. Jenna Borok is the definition of all you could want in a doctor — thorough, knowledgable, empathetic and attentive. I have seen her for many dermatologic issues (botox, acne, skin rashes) and she always takes the time to understand me/my lifestyle/my needs rather than offering a blanket solutions. She is so personable and truly cares about helping you — which feels rare sometimes in healthcare. She has also seen my parents, friends and other family members, of all ages and for various conditions, and we all feel so grateful to be under her care. If you are looking for a dermatologist who is immensely skilled, truly cares, and takes the time EVERY visit (and beyond your visits) to ensure your needs are fully met she is the dermatologist for you!!! I could not recommend Dr. Borok more.
