Complete Care at Berkshire

I am not pleased with the care that my mother is receiving. I previously spoke with the social worker about a staff member being ruff with her, now I am very concerned and disappointed that my mom has been sitting in the wheelchair before I arrived, I contacted the staff and let them know that she was tired and wanted to lay down. It is 8:18pm and we have been waiting since 6:52pm……

In the one month my mom was at Complete(ly) Care(less), I found her 1. Isolated at her bed because the floor was flooded and no one answered the nurse bell. 2. Bent over and crying in her wheel chair because she could not get back in her bed independently and no one was helping. 3. Suffering severe signs of infection without staff notifying medical POA. (Mom had dementia.) 4. Pinned down by 2-3 nurses while another tried to catheterize her while she was screaming in pain because … 5. She was severely dehydrated and had gotten an infection commonly caused by poor hygiene in the staff and was in constant pain the last 3-5 days they never told the family about. I had her taken to the hospital and my almost perfectly healthy mom was dead in a week.

When our neighbor Jack, who we used to enjoy 2 beers a day with while watching traffic or MeTV, was getting to the point he couldn’t care for himself full-time and started with cognitive challenges/memory issues, I feared that going into a long term care (skilled nursing) facility was going to be the beginning of the end for him. No way was this 10-year widower going to accept the idea of sharing a room with another person and giving up almost all of his independence and doing things at someone else’s will. Never did I believe it would be exactly what he needed to keep on thriving. Here we are, 6 months later, and he’s so very content every time we go to visit him. Please actively advocate for your loved one. Things you need to do and check for: 1)talk with the head caregivers; make sure they understand that you will not tolerate your loved one being put to bed while wet or soiled (many will not check and then say it must have happened after they checked), you will not tolerate your loved one not being fed, especially before going to bed. Sometimes food is just placed on tray and then picked up 10 minutes later, without even the courtesy of a little chat and just checking in "it's dinner. Look tonight we have "x" can I help you with anything?" I have seen wonderful 5 star service, but the more involved you are, the more sure you will be that your loved one is getting the service the deserve. This list goes on. Everyone from the admission staff, front desk, nurses, assistants, doctors and therapists are so kind and compassionate to both my mother and my family. They make a difficult situation a little easier.
