Coastal Pediatric Dentistry

My daughter had a scheduled appointment for 2:30 PM on 12/23/25. While at work, I received multiple calls and messages that I was unable to answer because I am not permitted access to my phone during working hours. I returned communication as soon as I reasonably could. I was informed that, due to other patients canceling, the office wanted me to arrive earlier than my scheduled time because my daughter was the last appointment of the day. I encountered traffic while traveling from work with my child and called to notify the office that I was approximately 6 minutes away. Despite the office having a stated 10-minute grace period, I was told my daughter would not be seen because the doctor was already preparing to leave for the day. Dr Powell was amazing. He was very patient and gentle with my son. The dental assistants were also very welcoming and nice. It was our first time attending there and I was extremely worried about not being able to go back with my son. I did not have that problem at all..they let me go back there with my two-year-old. He was supposed to get his cavity filled, however the cavity was too small and my son is so young and tiny.. so after examination we had to schedule to come back in a few months. Honestly, we are considering switching dentist because they do far more than my current dentist which is Clyburn Dental. We were referred there and we will definitely be returning customers. My 8yo suffers from severe anxiety issues. After jumping around from dentist to dentist trying to find someone who both accepts Medicaid and can deal with children with anxiety, we finally found this place. Everywhere else we tried he was too scared to even open his mouth. At Coastal Pediatric they allowed us to come back and be in the room with him, and they were able to keep him calm and talked to him the whole time while doing the filling. I highly recommend for kids with mental issues.

I took my oldest daughter today and had my other two kids scheduled for a later time in the afternoon. The front staff was able to work something out with me to bring them in earlier. My son is on the autism spectrum and the staff was incredibly patient and supportive during that time. Dr. Powell is so amazing and he explained everything with a smile on his face. You can tell he enjoys his job!! I definitely recommend this staff with Dr. Powell!!

I took my kids here today for the first time since their previous dental office closed. We were nervous, but the front desk ladies were nice. The hygienist that both my kids saw were amazing! The one who saw my 4 yr old was so patient with him while he couldn’t grasp biting down on the slides for X-rays. And Dr.Powell was amazing!!! He explained everything and was just super cheerful and helpful. They definitely made our experience amazing! I definitely recommend Dr. Powell and staff!
