Carilion Giles Community Hospital

Not a good choice for an emergency visit.. I sat for over 2 hours and not even 1 person checked on me the entire time. They took blood as I arrived. Then later a CT scan no dr or nurse checked on me the entire time. The Dr I had wasn't nice he was very much a smart ass. They said they were busy which I can understand but less then 12 cars in the parking lot and ER didnt seem full. Everyone was hovered around the nurses station talking. 1000% do not recommend

We had need of the ER last week and could not have been more impressed with the quality and speed of care. We bypassed the waiting room all together and Ct scans and multiple X-rays were done quickly and results were back in speedy time. A very special shout out to Robert and Melissa who provided great care and excellent communication about everything going on. And I appreciated Tammy, the advocate, who even offered me a blanket and water as I waited for my husband. The attending ( female, red hair) visited us at the end and was reassuring and helpful. While no one wants an ER visit, if I ever need one again, I’m headed to Pearisburg. Thank you!!

Quite disappointed and do not recommend for any hikers unless in immediate danger. Go elsewhere on trail. I was an AT thru hiker passing through in mid-August. Without appetite and GI issues for 4 days I was fairly confident after looking and talking to a web doc it was Giardia but I had to go into a place to get a prescription. With limited options I went into the ER and they kept me for 5 hours drawing blood and asking how I felt. There was no change in the 5 hours there since it was a bacterial infection for which I needed antibiotics. They said I was hydrated and everything looked good but they still administered multiple saline bags and meds, though at a point I refused as it seemed to be overkill and a way to bill my insurance. Was just in the ER on Sunday nursing staff was great, the doctor however was very condescending and seemed to stereotype me. He debated over 10 minutes as to whether my allergies to antibiotics were properly diagnosed which isn’t even why I was there. I ended up just leaving and going home I’m not going to stay somewhere that I’m treated like that. Later I noticed that some things that were put in the patient notes were not actually ever done. I contacted patient advocacy at the hospital who seemed to take the hospital side so they’re useless and not on your side. So I contacted my insurance provider and notified them of everything that went on and filed a complaint through them. I’m also going to be reaching out to the medical board also.

Rebecca Smith RN was fantastic. Her and the team took great care of my father and I couldn’t be happier. Rebecca went above and beyond and gave me courtesy calls to keep me updated on my father’s well being. I would recommend anyone to Rebecca and this team for top tier service.
