CareOne at The Highlands

Do not send your loved one to this facility! My mom was here for 6 weeks recently after she had fractured her arm. At that time, they kept her for the remainder of her 100 day limit, a total of 6 weeks. I've been her caregiver for the past 3 years after having 2 strokes and other health issues. Even after all of those major health issues, she has never come out of a rehab in the condition she was in, and she has stayed at 5 other rehabs! My mom was mobile and walked with her walker, used the bathroom independently, enjoyed dancing, sitting outside for fresh air etc. and now she can barely move from a chair to a commode. My mom was sent here from the hospital and we were very happy with it. From dealing with the social workers and admissions people to the daily staff we were treated well, and they were very helpful considering this was our first experience with my mom in a facility like this. We are grateful for having a helpful and friendly staff to help our mom and to reassure us our mom was in good hands. She was.

While there is no one long term care facility that is the perfect place, Care One at the Highlands on Inman Ave comes close. My mother in law spent two months there and we really can’t say enough about how good this place is. Everyone we encountered took their job seriously and truly seemed to have the best interests of the residents at heart. A few who I will mention here. Starting with the admission department, Bernadette Bath really made the process smooth and hassle free. No matter when we showed up at her door, she welcomed us in and made us feel like we were the only thing that mattered. My mother attended this Care One facility for about 4 weeks. Upon enetering her room, there was a foul smell of mildew that grew stronger when the bathroom door was opened. The water was leaking through the wall and there were various tiles missing in the shower, exposing a black substance growing near the faucet. The paint is discolored as well (water damage), throughout the room and the molding was dirty. There was even an incident where her room flooded and all of her belongings got wet. Also, she was placed in a broken bed that was supposed to be replaced but never was replaced throughout her stay. Visiting a friend in Hospice. Setting up calls and visitation was a bit painful, due to Covid. We were made to wait in the rain past our appointment time. The staff was nice and helpful. Facility was busy and seemingly disorganized. Outside ground were in need of maintenance. Walkways had poor drainage, had to walk through large puddles.
