My father was sent to third floor three S. at General when when I came in, I noticed really fast. My father was confused and reaching for milk that wasn’t there. He has liver cirrhosis and the only thing that helps him to keep that ammonia level down is lactose. He gets it every five hours if he don’t, his ammonia level goes very high and he’s had to put on an incubator several times and almost lost his life so immediately I knew they weren’t giving him his nine to close. I asked the nurse that was in the room at the time. When was the last time she gave it? How many times have he had it that day she said one time I said oh no I said he’s gonna get in trouble. His ammonia levels high now I can tell because he’s confused. I’m reaching for milk. That’s not there. I said can you please give h

My father spent days in the emergency room because they did not have a bed for him. Days of waiting, suffering, and discomfort, and they would not even give him a pillow. Watching him lie there without the most basic comfort was unbearable. A friend, who sits on a board with the CEO of CAMC, had to contact him directly just to get my father moved into a room. That is what it took. Not medical urgency. Not compassion. A personal call to leadership. He had severe black lung. We took him to the hospital because he was having localized seizures, terrified and hoping he would finally get the care he desperately needed. After all the waiting and uncertainty, he was finally diagnosed with a brain infection and remained there for seventeen days. Seventeen days of fear, pain, confusion, and consta

I was a victim of a stabbing in June of 2023. I almost lost my life over it. I spent a little bit of time on a ventilator & was in a lot of pain when I woke up (as one would expect after being stabbed 5 times in the neck). I don't really recall much during my time in the step down unit, but the day that they were discharging me from the step down unit to go home, is a day I'll never forget. I was asked a couple times when my ride would be there, & even after I explained that my mom would be there as soon as she could (she had to find someone to keep my son b/c we didn't want him to see me like that), but they didn't care. I asked if I was being sent home with pain meds. The nurse was EXTREMELY hateful & cold and told me no, to take some ibuprofen. I received no instructions on how to care

The staff is very attentive and kind. The only issue I have is ever visit I have had for suicidal ideations, they set me up in a room with three chairs or even a bed in the hallway. I have passed by empty rooms and would enjoy some privacy while speaking to hospital staff about my care. It is kind of embarrassing and makes you feel less valued as a patient.

My family member Sat in ER for 9 hours, we had no interaction with any medical staff to let us know what was going on. Said they did not have a bed, no offer of food, drink, patient is a diabetic.we left AMA and went to Thomas. Total different experience.
