Briarcliffe Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation

My grandmother was sent here for rehab after hip surgery, and our experience was very disappointing. The shared bathroom was too small to safely fit her walker and was used by four patients, including post-op residents who needed to be cautious about infection. It was visibly dirty, had no sink, and sponge baths were often done there instead of at bedside. On her first day, the toilet overflowed around lunchtime and it took hours for maintenance to fix it. Medication management was concerning. Important medications were not given on time, and staff blamed being understaffed. A med tech brought medications without explaining what they were. My grandmother asked several times to speak with a nurse; a CNA said she would notify one, but no nurse came. The facility appeared understaffed overall

Our elderly Mom spent @19 days on the Skilled Nursing floor in November. It was a scary time for her and our family. But , from the moment she arrived until the day she left , we knew she was in the hands of caring professionals. The CNAs were wonderful and always responded immediately to anything Mom needed or anything we needed for her while visiting . Manny and his staff in PT, were knowledgeable, caring and very patient with Mom. And 3 weeks later , their care showed in the gains Mom made with her strength . The doctors and nurses were efficient, knowledgeable and professional . The dietary team cared and wanted to make sure Mom was eating food she liked , the dietary lead even went out of her way to speak with Mom about any special requests she had. On Sunday July 14th I was visiting briarcliffe manor in Johnston. I noticed a worrisome amount of mold on the vents of the air conditioner. I asked the nurse for wipes and began wiping down the unit. I removed the vent and noticed the extent of the problem was worse than I had anticipated. I asked for maintenance and Rich arrived. He stated it wasn’t normally his job and that he told his boss Peter two weeks ago about the situation. That was the boiling point for me. How could this go for so long and not be taken seriously? I asked to be connected to the executive leadership but was derailed multiple times saying it’s Sunday and that they couldn’t be reached due to being at their beach cottage. If his unit looked like this I can only imagine how many others within the facility looked. Addi

Briarcliffe is a very fine facility. My aunt is now staying there, and she tells me that the staff washes her floor daily and that her main complaint is that they give her too MUCH food. She acknowledges the warmth, kindness and support of the staff. When I walk through the door to visit my aunt, I am offered a cheerful and helpful reception. They even offer coffee in the lobby, which is immaculate. I have visited my aunt several times, and I have yet to find anyone on the staff without a warm, positive attitude. She was recently in another facility where this was decidedly not the case. My uncle was in here short term- our family was very satisfied. All employees were very caring, helpful, and most importantly attentive. You don’t find that much these days with healthcare workers. 10/10 recommend if your family ever needs assistance.
