Ambler Extended Care Center

My sister was placed in this facility after a 30day stay in the icu as she was critically injured. Upon visiting I found the place to be disgraceful. They left my sister in soiled “diapers” as the NA called it - which if anyone has gone through training it is degrading to adult patients to call them diapers. She was not getting the proper attention to help her with eating. Her one wound on her leg nobody attended to except for once in her 19day stay. Which I had to take her to the emergency room for iv antibiotics because they didn’t tend to the wound. Yet making sure they were calling me to see where they were going to get the daily copay of 220 daily. They moved here 3 times in her stay and she is not ambulatory on her own. They lost her belongings that were her daughters that she gave

My family member was taken there a couple of years ago. There are good people there, there’s also people there that aren’t so good. Like any other place it’s got good and bad. In our particular experience we’ve had to endure unprofessionalism, hostility for wanting social workers and staff members to have accountability and phone calls returned which never are. His communication with his family is currently cut off, not for the first time either. He can’t even get help to put minutes on his phone. We were told it’s not their responsibility, so no. But when family lives out of state, how else is a disabled veterans supposed to get help except through the nursing home families have trusted to help our loved ones. My father recently was there for short stay for physical therapy and wound care. I can say he enjoyed the physical therapy but it took a week for his wound to be addressed. The room he stayed in had a shared bathroom between two rooms and the toilet was constantly clogged. The entire stay the room was not cleaned to the point he spilled something and I went daily to see if it would be cleaned up. It was never cleaned up until I asked for a broom and I used sanitizer wipes myself. He was supposed to be on hourly checks which only happened during day shift. He was given medication that he was never on and no explanation of why it was started that raised concerns with his primary care physician. It was my first stay at at smaller short term rehab facility. Yes it's primarily a nursing home. I found all the employees most helpful throughout my stay. The physical therapy department was excellent. Joe, Sam, Patel and Nicole are dedicated and treat everyone in their care with great care and respect. Paulette is superb as a therapist although I thought she was a little demanding at the beginning of my therapy but she had me improving myself better than the therapists at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital although they were very good there too. My only complaint was that I didn't receive a review for my stay and the social worker didn't contact me about my in home therapy.

My brother was sent to Ambler extended care. He had been in other nursing homes. The entire staff was the most sincere and professional that I have seen. The entire staff has been courteous, cooperative and caring.
