I've been seeing Dr. Chen for a couple of years as we explore options for relieving pain in my back. We've not achieved the successful outcomes we've hoped for, but it is not for lack of effort and knowledge on his part. He remains ever optimistic and is a joy to work with. Back in April 2024, I went to the UCLA Spine Center for lower back pain. Dr. Jae Jung told me the problem was my SI joint and gave me a steroid injection. It did absolutely nothing. A couple of weeks later, they tried the same injection again—still zero effect. Later on, Dr. Shamie, the chief of orthopaedic surgery there, told me there was actually nothing wrong with my SI joint. No wonder the injections didn’t work. At that point I was already frustrated with the whole situation. They then sent me to Dr. Allen Chen. He did an RFA (Radio Frequency Ablation), basically burning the nerves he thought were causing the pain. Communication was terrible, follow-up was nonexistent, and I left feeling worse than when I arrived, confused, unheard, and unsupported. If you value your health, time, or peace of mind, stay far away. There are far better doctors out there who actually care about their patients. You have been warned.

Dr. Chen Allen is an outstanding spine specialist who truly stands out in his field. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Chen. I came to him with back pain that was diagnosed as SI joint dysfunction. Dr. Chen was working with a fellow, who spent a significant amount of time talking with me and hearing my story, so I expected to only have a minute or two with Dr. Chen. Not the case, every single appointment after I had spent time talking with the fellow, he came in and still spent several minutes sitting down and talking with me, providing me reassurance, and answering my questions. I could not believe how good of a listener he was, which is often not the reputation of surgeons.
