I had two experiences with Albany Medical Center this year; this review reflects care for urgent, life-threatening needs and end-of-life care. I will post a separate one for the emergency room care with release to home. My sister was transported by ambulance from Saratoga Springs to Albany Med after a hemorrhagic stroke. Diagnostic testing was performed immediately, and the nursing staff was kind, attentive, and communicative throughout the process. Within half a day, we were given a space on the D5 (Neurology/stroke) floor and met with both a neurosurgeon and a neurologist/stroke specialist who clearly explained her prognosis and life-sustaining options. Knowing and honoring her wishes, we chose comfort care (hospice-like) so she could pass peacefully and naturally. All areas of the hospi
My husband had an outpatient procedure done the other day. Albany medical center it's not a hospital that we participate with frequently. The minute you walk in the door you're greeted with most unpleasant people, and it continues throughout the whole process. The only one that was friendly was the registration person. Everyone seems to be busy on their phone's. The empathy level is non-existence. Everyone who has to go there has something going on that is very stressful in your life and to have so many miserable people to deal with is ridiculous.
Today I had brain surgery at Albany Med. I can’t say enough about the professionalism, attention to detail, and most of all the patient-centric ethos of this great hospital. Tremendous respect for the Neurosurgery Department, with a loud and grateful shout out to Dr. Heller and Kaylee… and admiration and gratitude for Lesley G. in the PACU recovery room who wears her heart on her sleeve filled with her deep commitment to her patients. And to Jen, who left no stone unturned to take away my pain. And to Hannah T. and Arlene G. for their compassion and understanding, and John N. for his serious commitment to his patients while at the same time bringing his warm smile every day. And finally to the amazing professionals on D5North, Neuro: PA Yosef, Latonia, Danielle, great student Madison, RN K
First time dealing with Albany Medical Center and I pray I never have to again. My mother was transported there due to no other hospital near us having room in their cardiac unit 2 1/2 hours away. The gentlemen in the ambulance were very good to her and she had a couple of good nurses, but several that just didn't care to do the job of helping her with personal hygiene. They never contacted her family to ask about her home situation before referring her to go home with home PT. They told us she would get a shower, and she didn't get one after being there for a week. We went to visit and the nurse came in with release papers. No one had been notified that she was going home that day. The first day was the only day we talked to the doctor. 6 days went by with no communication unless we calle
If I could give this zero stars and /or half a star I would. Never in my life have I had such horrible care. Call bells on at all times , d/t nurses never coming to. In the time I have been here I’ve been In so much pain. I know my body and what works for it , one doctor consulted acute pain control. And they said to continue with pain regimen. That they have me on, the one filled with oral medication that I don’t absorb. No one understands me! Or listened to me! I do know my body fairly well. The constant laughing at me when I’m in pain. Doctors refuse to do anything different so for as long as I’ve been here I’m been in the worst pain. With zero compassion or empathy from the doctors or nurses. This is truly the definition of hell!
