My husband and I have visited AK Regional Emergency Department a few times over the last 10 years or so. Each time we were treated quickly and the staff has been incredible. I was there today and received top notch care for a nose bleed that wouldn’t stop, but while I was there I witnessed patients who appeared to be indigent being treated who were given top level care with extreme kindness. My visit today resulted in my issue being resolved quickly, but also resulted in me having more faith in humanity based on what I witnessed by the staff.
Even before the moment I arrived, care was prompt, respectful, and well‑coordinated, creating a sense of safety and trust during a vulnerable time. Every member of the healthcare team demonstrated genuine professionalism, compassion, and attentiveness. The bedside manner stood out in particular. Staff took the time to listen, explain procedures clearly, and answer questions thoroughly, ensuring I felt informed and included in my care. Communication was not rushed or dismissive; instead, it reflected patience, empathy, and a sincere commitment to dignity and respect. The team went above and beyond in small but meaningful actions; checking in proactively, offering reassurance, and anticipating needs, which made a big difference in my overall experience. These moments revealed not just techni
Overall, I was very impressed with my stay. The staff was excellent across the board—from housekeeping to the doctors—and I’m grateful for the care I received. My biggest concern was the lack of communication between doctors and nurses. I went three days without food or water because the nurses were unsure when my unplanned surgery would take place. I had been life-flighted from Soldotna, which made the uncertainty even more stressful. My husband, whom had to stay in Soldotna with our two year old, was also frequently left out of the loop and often unsure of what was happening, even after surgeries. Communication with family members clearly needs improvement. Discharge was another major issue. I know whoever is reading this is aware of how discharge often feels: “Good luck.” If I hadn’t
I was in the hospital from 11th December 2025 to 3 January 2026 and had three back surgeries. The care I received was truly outstanding, especially from the nurses! The nurses were extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of my care; including my medications and how I stood, walked and positioned myself in the bed. Not only were my nurses skilled and professional, they were incredibly supportive! There were times when I was in extreme pain and the nurses were absolutely amazing! I can’t say enough about how attentive they were. I can’t thank them enough! I received great care from the entire hospital staff, including the cleaning crew and the food service staff. The food service employees were very friendly and really flexible. I was able to make changes and the food was absolutely delici
I needed to have a routine medical procedure done last week. As a transplant from Wisconsin, I was understandably nervous over having to work with a new doctor and a new medical facility. My fears were for naught as my experience on both areas were excellent. In fact, I felt better cared for here than with my former hospital. I arrived at 6 in the morning to check in and everything went as planned. The nursing staff was wonderfully attentive and kind, and I really enjoyed working with them. I can't say enough for both the doctor and the anesthesiologist, as they were also kind, patient, and quite professional. I will have no hesitation returning to the Alaska Regional Hospital for future medical care.
