Alaska Breast Care And Surgery

I went in for a consult regarding itching breast. Dr. Sandford told me that I wasn't itching, it was my brain misinterpreting pain. She also told me the reason I was in "pain" was a hormonal thing and that it would go away when I finished menopause (I haven't even STARTED menopause!). She then said "we just need to trick your brain into ignoring it." Seriously? Oh, and "its been years since I had anyone who was SA." um...3 in 5 lady, 3 in FIVE... DO NOT go to this doc.

I have never experienced a clinic as unorganized as Alaska Breast Care. My appointment was changed 3 times and I had waited almost a year for an appointment. I understand given we have minimal providers for breast care in AK, it took a while to get an appointment but the worse part was when I finally went to my appointment, the provider did not review my chart nor my genetic test results and was clueless as to why I was there. Then she told me I should’ve had my Mammogram over a year ago and I explained how long I had waited for the appointment. The front staff kept calling me before my appointment stating that they don’t have a referral from my primary care and that they don’t have my genetic testing results. When I arrived I was under the impression that there were many possible surgeons to choose from here. But based on the prior reviews I read, only a Provider Sandford does them. I want to start off by saying that "kindness and honesty" can be interpreted differently depending on the culture and upbringing of an individual. It is possible that Provider Sandford doesn't define 'kindness and honesty' the same as myself. Long story short, I came in for ONLY a consultation for a possible biopsy and she expressed to me that because I have fibromyalgia that I wouldn't be able to feel any pain during a biopsy. I let her know that it sounded like she had little knowledge of how fibromyalgia worked based on that assessment. She assured me that pain wouldn't be felt (despite my referring Provider giv

Dr. Sandford played a major role in saving my life at age 25 and I’ve seen her for follow ups ever since. I’m almost 8 years out now. She got me on her schedule immediately and took my concerns seriously. I think a lot of docs can brush off young women’s concerns, but not with her. When I got the cancer diagnosis, I thought she formed me a great care team and got things moving at great speed. I thought her counseling on options was informed and straightforward. And I think she did a bang up job on my double mastectomy. I’ve transitioned to seeing Nancy for awhile now, and she’s great too. They’ve always taken any concern I have seriously even in post cancer life. I also know that Dr. Sandford stays up on the research and especially genetics. I trust her with my medical care immensely!

Dr. Sandford and her team were awesome. They played music I liked to comfort me. They were attentive and understood how scared I was for a biopsy. Dr. Sandford explained things, went above and beyond to explain things that were related (like hormone replacement therapy side effects). When the local anesthetic was not fully working, Dr. Sanford noticed the slightest change in my demeanor and reacted swiftly and appropriately. She stopped the procedure to administer more local anesthetic stating "we're not into torture in this office". I'm not sure what happened in other poor reviews as everyone has their own experience but for me this doctor was great.
